How to Maintain Unpainted Metal
Suggested Project Use: Copper, silver, brass, bronze, gold-plate, stainless steel, steel, chrome, aluminium (not anodised), and any non-painted metals that already have Everbrite or ProtectaClear applied in the past.

Make sure you have the same coating you used before: Everbrite is recommended for copper roofs and awnings as well as any project where ProtectaClear® is not needed. ProtectaClear® is required for Stainless Steel, highly or mirror polished surfaces, items that get a lot of use and abuse, and food safe items. For instance, jewellery, sinks, counter/bar tops, appliances, flatware, stainless steel, polished brass, wheels, walkable surfaces, hardware and high-use hand rails.

Maintenance When Existing Coating Is Still Intact And Metal Looks Like You Want

-
CLEAN WITH EZ PREP or equivalent, RINSE & DRY
-
Wet the surface with water. (DO NOT apply EZ Prep solution on a dry surface.)
-
In a bucket, mix 30-60 ml. of EZ Prep Cleaning Concentrate per 3.8L of water to create a soap solution.
Submerge soft brush, sponge, or a clean microfiber towel into soap solution and wash surface, cleaning all
areas evenly. Wash in sections if necessary. (DO NOT allow any soap mixture to dry on the surface.)
-
Rinse with fresh water until the water sheets off of the metal. Make sure there is no cleaner or other contaminants left on the surface. If the water beads up, the surface is not clean. Rewash the surface. Rinse
thoroughly until there are no bubbles or beading and the water sheets off.
-
The surface must be completely dry before application of the coating. Allow to dry or for smaller items, hand
dry with soft clean lint free cloth. Pay close attention to cracks, crevices and seams where water can collect. On smaller projects, you can use a hairdryer or heated fan to help this process.

*DO NOT wipe with a Solvent! (These can be found on the Instructions page of our website.)

Maintenance When Metal Is Tarnished, Discoloured Or The Coating Has Worn Off

1. REMOVE EXISTING COATING
To remove the coating: Soak a clean cloth or paper towel in a recommended solvent like Xylene or an equivalent. Using light pressure, move the wet cloth across the surface allowing the solvent to dwell and "melt" the coating. Wipe the "melted" coating up and off of the surface. Repeat the process until the coating is removed. Do not scrub or rub hard, it will not work as well. Alternatively, the coating can be sanded off using caution not to damage the finish.

2. SEE QuickStart Directions for “Unpainted, Polished or Bare Metal” – Start from the beginning. This process is similar to how you protected your metal initially. (These can be found on the Instructions page of our website.)
